John Williams hails from the New England region of New South Wales and was elected to the Senate at the 2007 Federal election.

With a background in farming and small business, John understands regional Australia and the issues small business operators deal with every day.  He ran a mixed farming business near Inverell for 21 years before diversifying into a farm supplies business which he operated until his election to the Senate.

John has been an active member of The Nationals since 1982 and held a range of offices with the Party at branch and electorate level.   He was a member of The Nationals – New South Wales Central Executive from 2003 to 2007.

A firm believer in investing back into his local community, John has been an active member of both Apex and Rotary.  First joining Apex in 1981, he was granted Life membership of Sapphire City Apex in 1995.  He served two years as District Governor and orchestrated Apex's 1994 National Campaign for School Bus Safety Awareness.  John is currently a member of Inverell East Rotary Club.

John is a keen sportsman, playing Australian Rules football for most of his younger years and district cricket until 2000.  John is Married to Nancy. John is the proud father of three adult children.
