Close to 38,000 people in the Richmond electorate will benefit from the one-off energy payment of up to $75 to help with energy costs.

The Nationals Duty Senator for Richmond John Williams said the Energy Assistance Payment will be provided to people on the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension and Parenting Payment Single as well as Veterans and their partners who receive the Service Pension, Income Support Supplement and relevant compensation payments.

Senator Williams said 37,701 people in Richmond will benefit from the measure with singles receiving $75 and each pensioner in a couple to receive $62.50.

The payments will be made automatically over the next two weeks and they will not be treated as income for tax purposes and do not count as income for social security purposes.

Senator Williams said there is also good news for those people who lost their Pensioner Concession Card as a result of the reforms to the pension assets test earlier this year.

He said 856 part-pensioners will have the Pensioner Concession Card reinstated in October.
