The Nationals Duty Senator for Richmond John Williams has welcomed the signing of the contract to provide solar for the Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre.

Senator Williams said the Australian Government is providing just over $113,000 for the supply and installation of a 99.18kW commercial solar panel system.

It includes the installation of 228 x 435W SunPower E-series photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the Tweed Regional Gallery using a Clenergy roof mounting system, as well as two 50kw ABB inverters.

Senator Williams said this project was promised to the Tweed community and is now being delivered.

The General Manager of Tweed Shire Council Troy Green also welcomed this milestone and said the system would avoid up to 100 tonnes of grid-power based carbon emissions each year, and create annual energy cost savings of up to $48,500 at the Gallery, representing 30 per cent of the annual bill.

“This is a great outcome, as Council is seeking every opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint, and the project also benefits our bottom line.

It’s not just about the Gallery – the installation of this solar system will benefit all ratepayers through reducing the cost of Council operations and our impact to the environment,” Mr Green said.

Senator Williams said Tweed Shire Council will manage the solar project and it is due for completion by the 29th of September this year.
