The Federal government will press ahead with funding for the Scone Level Crossing.mb1

The Nationals Duty Senator for Hunter John Williams says the government will provide $45 million for the level crossing improvements and will be matched dollar for dollar by the NSW government.

Senator Williams said it was one of several projects that Labor had promised to fund out of its failed mining tax.

He said on one of his first visits to Scone several years ago, Nationals candidate and now Mayor of Upper Hunter Shire Council Michael Johnsen took him to the Kelly Street crossing and explained the urgent need for it to be fixed.

“With the huge amount of coal train movements through Scone I saw for myself the traffic bottlenecks that were occurring regularly.

I’m pleased that in just three months in government, the Coalition has been able to provide the $45 million to make the project a reality, when under Labor there were six years of inaction”, Senator Williams said.
